On The Pitch

If you are a soccer player in Ann Arbor, then chances are you know of Gonzalo Ubillus or his group Soccer Fever. Soccer Fever, with almost 150 members, is the largest pickup group in the area, making him somewhat of a legend in the community. For over 8 years, Gonzalo has been promoting soccer in a number of ways including organizing pickup games year-round even in the winter where soccer is scarce.

One of the Freestyle Captains, Gonzalo has shown his passion for the game is true. Like he does every year, Gonzalo rented out the Coliseum indoor facility this winter to provide a place for people to play close to campus. If you are interested in any of his groups, you can find him on Freestyle.

Project Freestyle partnered with the Egyptian Student Association at the University of Michigan to hold the annual Arab Soccer Tournament to figure out once and for all which country is the best at soccer. The Captains came out and reffed the tournament which proved to be an intense, but light-hearted competition. In the end, it was Egypt that came away with the victory and the bragging rights.
